Nestled along the northern, western, and southern edges of Montagu, the Montagu Mountain Reserve spans an impressive 2,000 hectares of stunning natural beauty. With its dramatic landscapes and abundant wildlife, this reserve is a haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Conveniently located, the reserve is easily accessible on foot via Barry or Tanner Street, making it an integral part of the town’s charm. the Reserve is home to Joubert Park, a picturesque spot on the Keisie River, as well as several iconic landmarks.

Visitors can explore breathtaking family-friendly locations like Kanonkop, Eyssenhuis, Lovers’ Walk, Badskloof, Donkerkloof and more challenging trails like Cogmanskloof, Keurkloof, and Aasvoelkrans and Bloupunt. History buffs will love visiting Fort Sidney and the famous tunnel in Cogmanskloof, both within the Reserve’s boundaries. 

The Montagu Mountain Reserve is managed by the Langeberg Municipality’s Community Services Directorate, with valuable input from a dedicated Advisory Board of community volunteers. Together, they ensure the Reserve remains a treasured environmental and recreational asset.

The Hiking trails are now open Mondays and Tuesdays from 07H45 to 16H30.

Wednesdays to Fridays from 07H45 to 17H30, Saturdays and Sundays from 08h00 to 16H30.

A permit is required to enter any part of the reserve.

 No dogs allowed beyond the boom gate.

Which route or trail you are on, or close to; closest access points etc. c) The level of the leaders'/ groups experience (including first aid) and what clothing, equipment, sustenance and water etc. to hand. 8) If outside help is requested, it is vital to listen carefully to questions asked, have answers ready (as best you can), pay attention to any instructions given and keep mobile phones 'lines' open so that you can be easily contacted.
